KARACHI: President Arif Alvi has signed the NAB Amendment Ordinance after which the post of Chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has been extended.
According to details, the ordinance has been renamed as NAB Amendment Ordinance 2021. The President has accepted the resignation of NAB Deputy Chairman Hussain Asghar. The NAB will continue to function. According to the ordinance, the President will set up as many accountability courts in the country as he wants.The President will appoint judges of the Accountability Courts in consultation with the concerned Chief Justice of the High Court. The President will appoint the Chairman NAB in consultation with the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. However, if there is no consensus, the President will refer the matter to the parliamentary committee. The parliamentary committee will consist of 12 members whose job is to create consensus. The current chairman NAB will continue to work until the new chairman is appointed. According to the ordinance, the term of office of the new chairman will be four years. Will be able to be deployed for the next four years.
